Gonzaga Sport Consulting Group
We are much more.
The client work is real. Real brands, real deadlines, real rooms. But the projects are the instrument. What we are building is the person doing them.
Our vision
GSCG is the consultancy that shapes future Zag business leaders by combining the power of sport with unparalleled experiential learning, positioning us as an innovator in business education and a valuable resource in the sports industry.
We build leaders through internal growth earned by external experience. The client project is the outside. What it does to your judgment, your nerve and your standards is the inside. One produces the other, and the inside is what you keep.
Two missions run at once. Deliver something genuinely valuable to a client, and develop the student doing it. They pull against each other on purpose, and learning to hold both is the education.
Where it comes from
Gonzaga is a Jesuit university, and cura personalis, care for the whole person, is not decoration here. It is the reason this organization is built the way it is. We are not developing a skill set. We are developing a person who happens to be very good at this work.
The other half of that inheritance is magis, the striving for more. Not more hours. More depth, more honesty about where you actually are, more of what the moment asks for.
What we are building
Elite athletes do not train one thing. They train their mind, their body and their craft, and they treat all three as the job. We are developing programming that brings that same model into a business school, because the whole person is exactly what a Jesuit education is for.
How you handle pressure, feedback and the moment you feel least qualified in the room. The research on this is real, it comes largely out of sport, and it applies directly to a nineteen year old presenting to professionals for the first time.
Energy, recovery and the habits that make a demanding semester renewable instead of consuming. Performance is physical before it is anything else.
The actual work. Research, analysis, storytelling, and standing in front of a client who knows more than you do and holding your ground.
How we get there
Not values on a wall. These are the test every role here is measured against, and they work as a system. The first is the engine. The second is the first applied to each other. The third is what those two make possible. The fourth is what the third earns.
Everyone here treats GSCG as an instrument of growth. Real clients, real deadlines, feedback, live presentations. All of it is material, and none of it happens to you passively.
For a deeper dive into growth through GSCG, read what we actually mean by growth.
Real support takes three forms, and choosing the right one is the actual skill. Sometimes you let someone struggle, because that is how the skill forms. Sometimes you step in and help. Sometimes you step in and are critical, because specific, direct feedback is a form of support rather than the opposite of it.
We choose difficulty deliberately when it serves your growth and the client. First time project managers. Live presentations to people who will double click into your research. An unassisted first half on every project, with no AI, because the hard version is where the learning lives.
Non negotiable, and earned. Fun here is the reflection of hard work done well rather than the reason to show up. A strong organization affords real things. Road games, traditions worth keeping, a team you would choose.
However you get here
We encourage engagement from every angle. There is no single profile and no single door. What matters is whether you are about our principles, because everything else we can build around you.
Freshman or sophomore?
Start early and earn a chance to grow into leadership. You will be handed something real while you still have three years to grow into what it teaches you, and the people who start early are the ones who end up running this.
Have a specialty?
Graphic design, marketing, human resources, communication, or something we have not thought of yet. We have roles built around a specialty, because an organization this ambitious needs people who are excellent at one thing and willing to aim it at us.
Graphic design · Marketing · Human resources · Communication · Content · Events
Junior or senior?
Have you grown elsewhere and now want a chance to play a large role in our projects? Apply to set the standard on a project or to manage one. Experience earned somewhere else counts here, and we would rather hand it real responsibility than ask it to wait its turn.
We have worked hard to architect many ways into GSCG. If you are about our principles, reach out and engage with our projects or our case competitions.
The word we choose
Error,
not failure.
We choose the first word on purpose.
Error is something you can locate, understand and reduce. It sits in the brief that was vague, the conditions nobody chose, and the work itself, and it is usually spread across all three. Failure is a judgment about a person, and a judgment teaches nobody anything.
So when something goes wrong we go looking for error. Everyone takes their own piece and grows from it, and whoever raises the issue names their own part first. That is what makes hard conversations survivable between people who like each other, and it is why people here will tell you the truth about your work.

In their words
Real reflections from students who did a semester here. Names left off on purpose. The year and the term are what matter, because the point is how early this starts.
Being able to hear feedback and connect with professionals in the sports industry was so rewarding. Knowing that they were willing to give up time for us even though they had a game that same evening is something I will carry into my career.
Individual drive is key but ineffective if not paired with strong teamwork. Working with a shared vision makes the hard work easier, and empowers you to advocate for the positions that fit you best.
My key takeaway was relating everything back to my why. The story I want to tell about my career should not be defined purely by successes or any given title. It should always be the push to do hard things and fail while doing them.
Lisa said she chooses her job based on where she is at in life. Right now she is 'enjoying the comfort.' That is a skill in my opinion: to just absorb the place you are at in life.
The best way to respond to tough client feedback is to rebound, regroup, and channel your frustration into improvement. When we critique each other's ideas, they get better. When we listen to feedback from others, we are better.
My biggest takeaway was the significance of crafting meaningful relationships within the business world. When someone takes their time to invest in you, you can learn from that. As you grow, do the same for others.
There are a million ways to get where you want to be, and the path is not linear. Failure and rejection is just redirection. It is true, and it has been true in my own life. That reminder was one thousand percent necessary.
When you're younger, there is time to put your head down and grind it out. As you grow, a transition into a role where work-life balance is more accepted becomes a decision you can make intentionally. Hearing that framing humanized the career grind for me.
Find a balance between what you are doing professionally and what stage of life you are in. Build relationships and friendships that make your job easier and worthwhile. Those two things together, that is what stood out from this entire experience.
Work put in behind the scenes can be crucial in nurturing your skillset and added value to an organization. Even when it is not visible, it supports a wider career outlook.

Open to every major. You will do work that ships, present to people who know the industry, and be handed responsibility before you feel ready. That is the design, not an accident.
What you leave with is not a line on a resume. It is the habit of getting better on purpose, which is the only skill that keeps paying.
